Local AI minimum

16 GiB unified memory.
Apple silicon M4 or better.

A Mac mini with an M4 chip and 16 GB of unified memory is the baseline example. See Apple’s Mac mini specifications.

A macOS version supported by your Mac
Ollama and a supported local model
Internet access for initial setup and model downloads
Enough free storage for the app, runtime, and chosen model

Larger models and concurrent workloads may require more memory. These requirements apply to local AI; hosted AI uses your selected provider’s services.

Local AI is part of Desktop.

The Apple-silicon Desktop package includes local AI setup components for supported workflows. Use a compatible local model with your project files and configured tools.

Ollama and model weights are setup dependencies. Follow the instructions in your package to install the runtime and supported model. Allow time, bandwidth, storage, and memory for that model.

There is one Desktop purchase and download. You do not need a separate Local Stack purchase.

Local AI

A compatible model can work beside your local files and tools. Install its runtime and model first.

Hosted AI

Choose a supported provider for the task. Requests and relevant context are processed under that provider’s terms.

Phone access

Messages and attachments travel through your configured relay or Telegram. Local inference does not make phone transport offline.

What offline means.

After setup, compatible local tasks can use your files, installed tools, and saved knowledge without a hosted model. Fresh web research, cloud services, and remote phone access still need connectivity.

Model performance depends on your hardware and chosen model. Local and hosted agents may handle the same task differently.

You can customize profiles, tools, and workflows. Camera and robotics integrations need separate hardware and configuration; physical control is an advanced integration with explicit arming and independent safety controls.
